Please join former U.S. Rep. Harold Ford, Jr., former Undersecretary of Commerce Ev Ehrlich and PPI President Will Marshall on July 29 for a briefing on a new “progressive broadband agenda.” When the Internet emerged 20 years ago, progressives nurtured its growth and development with innovation-friendly policies and a light regulatory touch. That’s why America today has a dynamic, hotly competitive “data-driven economy” that is at the leading edge of economic innovation and growth. Instead of building on this success, however, progressives often seem distracted by old regulatory battles rooted in the bygone era of telephone monopolies. In a new report for PPI, Ev Ehrlich proposes a forward-looking alternative – a progressive agenda that sees ubiquitous, high-speed broadband as a powerful tool for social and political empowerment, as well as for boosting productivity in education, health care and public service delivery.
The speakers for the event will include:
The Honorable Harold E. Ford Jr, five-term member of U.S Congress representing the 9th district of Tennessee and honorary co-chair of Broadband for America
Ev Ehrlich, former Undersecretary of Commerce in the Clinton administration and author of new a PPI report, “Shaping the Digital Age: A Progressive Broadband Agenda”
Moderator: Will Marshall, President, Progressive Policy Institute
Program:
12:30 p.m. Opening Remarks and Discussion
Lunch will be served
