Policy

The Progressive Policy Institute (PPI) is currently seeking a full-time Director of Health Care Policy to join our busy and fast-paced Policy team. The Director of Health Care policy will lead PPI’s work in covering the many facets of health care policy, and will work closely with intersecting policy teams, as well as the Communications and Government Relations teams. This position is based in Washington, D.C. and will work full-time in the D.C. office.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and offer radically pragmatic policy solutions in the health policy landscape
  • Publish policy briefs, papers, and memos on a variety of health policy issue areas
  • Write opinion pieces and blogs on health policy priorities of PPI
  • Represent PPI’s views on public panels, podcasts, and in the press
  • Manage policy projects, proposals, and initiatives with internal and external stakeholders, domestic and international partner organizations, and policymakers
  • Assist in event organization and execution
  • Coordinate with PPI’s policy team on shared goals

Qualifications:

  • An entrepreneurial spirit
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Public Policy, or related field preferred
  • A minimum of three years of directly relevant work experience in health policy, preferably on Capitol Hill or in a statehouse
  • A thorough understanding of the federal and state-wide health policy landscape
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and adhere to project deadlines
  • Strong writing, presentation, and public speaking skills
  • Advanced quantitative capabilities

PPI seeks a full-time Program Manager for the Mosaic Project, an initiative to elevate a diverse group of women with expertise in economics, technology, and other policy areas who seek to engage in the public policy ecosystem.

Specifically, the Program Manager will help to build out the Mosaic Project program including but not limited to: Coordinating the Women Changing Policy Workshop (Mosaic‘s signature training which happens 3x a year), identifying and helping to maintain the Mosaic network through programming, individual outreach and events, assisting with additional organizational programming throughout the year, managing the database, website and additional collateral materials that are needed to promote and maintain the program as well as working with core staff and consultants and stakeholders of the program both internal to Mosaic/PPI and outside.

You are a dynamic, forward-thinking, and motivated self-starter with a genuine interest in domestic politics, current national issues, and a particular interest in working to expand the playing field for women in the “expert landscape” space of economics, technology, and other policy areas. Candidates should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational and multitasking skills, exceptional interpersonal skills, and the facility to drive results and to meet deadlines consistently is a must.

Responsibilities include:

  • Building a system for ongoing communications and engagement of the Mosaic Network
  • Supporting the Women Changing Policy Workshop including, agenda input, speaker outreach and confirmation, marketing, management of applications and responses, and production logistics
  • Assisting with quarterly programming and annual stakeholder summit
  • Marketing, partner, and outreach support
  • Fact-checking and drafting press releases, op-eds, studies, and reports
  • Managing daily operations both internal needs at PPI and coordination with senior staff and consultants.

Fellowships

PPI is currently accepting applications for fellows for the Spring semester.

PPI routinely hires fellows for Summer, Spring, and Fall/Winter in our Washington, D.C. office. PPI has no set term for start and end dates for each semester, and acceptance is a rolling process until all positions are filled. Fellowships are typically no more than 30 hours a week.

The Progressive Policy Institute is seeking a part-time, paid Policy Fellow for the spring to assist PPI’s policy experts with research, writing, compiling data, and other tasks.

An ideal candidate will be someone with a thorough knowledge of and passion for economics and policy. Must have a genuine interest in domestic politics, foreign policy, and current national issues.

Primary Responsibilities:

PPI’s research and policy work span a wide range of topics, including the data-driven economy, the impact of regulation on innovation, and policies to improve production, investment and job growth, health care policy, education, and much more. The policy fellow will assist PPI’s and contributors in researching, compiling data, and writing policy reports, op-eds, and blog posts for our website.

Qualifications:

  • Coursework or other proven knowledge of economic tools and thinking
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Working knowledge of politics and policy
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • The ability to self-start and meet deadlines

We are currently seeking fellows interested in working (approximately 20 to 30 hours) during regular weekday hours, but are flexible to other hours based on students’ needs.

PPI is seeking a part-time, paid fellow to collaborate with the Government Relations and Communications teams for the spring. An ideal candidate will be a news and political junkie with prior experience working in public affairs and digital communications. Must have a genuine interest in domestic politics, foreign policy, current national issues, and a working knowledge of social media networks. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational and multitasking skills, exceptional interpersonal skills, and the facility to drive results and consistently meet deadlines are a must. This program places a heavy emphasis on Public Affairs/Government Relations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Communications team to draft, edit, and create content for various social media platforms
  • Draft press releases, blogs, and op-eds
  • Assist with planning, recording, editing, and publishing weekly podcast episodes
  • Assist with compiling and drafting PPI’s weekly email newsletters
  • Editing video content and publishing to YouTube
  • Assisting with planning and executing PPI virtual events, interviews, and recordings
  • Assist with digital media programming
  • Assist PPI’s related projects with digital media duties, such as the Mosaic Economic Project, which focuses on uplifting the voices of women experts in tech and economics
  • Compile press clippings and prepare broadcast clips for distribution
  • Update and maintain the website

The Progressive Policy Institute (PPI) is seeking to hire a Congressional Policy Fellow for the 119th Congress who will be placed on staff of the New Democrat Coalition (NDC) in the U.S. House of Representatives. This fellow will report directly to the NDC policy staff and help support the Coalition’s legislative activities. It is designed to provide early-career experts with the opportunity to work hands-on in a congressional office in order to gain valuable experience and to learn about the legislative process. The fellowship will be for a one-year period beginning on the position’s start date. The nature of this position will allow you to easily build a network on Capitol Hill and in DC for future career opportunities post-fellowship. Applications are due by Friday, November 23.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Support and assist with developing the NDC’s legislative agenda in the 119th Congress

  • Develop and coordinate staff briefings, issue-focused conversations, and other discussions on policy.

  • Research and produce policy briefs on legislative issues for the NDC.

  • Help manage NDC and stakeholder relationships

  • Support the NDC’s policy team with other tasks as needed

  • Participate in periodic check-in sessions with PPI and complete exit memo upon completion of the fellowship

REQUIREMENTS

  • College graduate: Bachelors

  • Prior Capitol Hill and/or other political experience preferred

  • Preferred majors: Public Policy, Statistics, Political Science, History, Economics

  • Passion for pragmatic, bipartisan policy development and implementation

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and adhere to strict deadlines

  • Passion for the mission of the NDC

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Must live in or be willing to move to Washington, DC for the duration of the fellowship
