The Progressive Policy Institute (PPI) is eager to share the refreshed agenda of our education project, Reinventing America’s Schools. We do not believe leaders should retreat from the goal of ensuring every child has an opportunity to attain excellent public education in favor of school voucher policies with little to no accountability. Instead, we believe national leadership must refocus on proven strategies to improve public schools and raise student achievement.
Our new mission statement, “A New Compact for Educational Excellence,” proposes a reform blueprint that creates a new compact with parents for public education and reinvents the system to make these goals possible. Grounded in three core principles—academic success, family voice and choice within the public system, and a strong federal guarantee of educational opportunity—the Compact outlines nine policy pillars to guide reform at the federal, state, and local levels.
