Regulating Digital Platforms hosted by CEPS & PPI

  • June 19, 2018 - 3:00 pm ET

Digital platforms have become the motor of the global economy. From AirBnB to Booking.com to Amazon, they allow individuals and businesses to reach buyers and consumers to find previously hard-to-locate products and services. Not surprisingly, as digital platforms have become more numerous and significant, they have come under the scrutiny of regulators. In particular, the European Commission has been examining the perception that European business users are being treated unfairly by digital platforms. The result was a recently proposed new regulation “promoting fairness and transparency for business users of online intermediation services.”

Come hear renowned economist Michael Mandel of the Progressive Policy Institute present a new paper analysing the proposed regulation.

Registration from 16.30 – Meeting from 17.00 to 18.30 followed by a cocktail.

Speakers: Michael Mandel, Chief Economic Strategist, Progressive Policy Institute

Werner Stengg, Head of Unit, Ecommerce and Online Platforms, DG CONNECT, European Commission

Lenard Koschwitz, Director of European Affairs, Allied for Startups

Chair: William Echikson, Head of Digital Forum, CEPS
