Mississippi has delivered one of the most remarkable educational turnarounds in our nation’s history in the last twenty years. The media has extensively covered Mississippi’s literacy work, and states are beginning to try to replicate some of the same strategies. What policymakers may not realize is that the story is larger and more complex than the adoption of any single policy, and states should understand this complexity if they want to find the same success.
