Join us ACT | The App Association and Engine for a timely discussion on how antitrust and competition policy proposals directed at software platforms could impact small, innovative companies in the app economy. Antitrust is a hot topic in Congress and in legislatures and courts across the nation, especially as it applies to tech-driven markets. With much of this attention directed to the more sensational disputes around Amazon’s retail, Facebook’s social media, and Google’s search platforms, the antitrust debate around software distribution deserves a close look as well. This event will focus on some of the main proposals and aspects of the antitrust debate as they apply to the app economy:
– Proposals to lower thresholds for merger challenges;
– Proposals to reorient liability for antitrust violations to focus more on harm to competitors than to consumers;
– Proposed regulatory regimes mandating nondiscrimination, interoperability, or portability; and
– Proposals to increase resources for antitrust enforcement.
Panel participants will include:
– Kate Tummarello, Executive Director, Engine (Moderator)
– Graham Dufault, Senior Director for Public Policy, ACT | The App Association
– Mark Jamison, Gerald L. Gunter Memorial Professor and Director, Public Utility Research Center, University of Florida Warrington College of Business
– Sarah Richard, Policy Counsel and Head of U.S. Policy, App Developers Alliance
– Alec Stapp, Director of Technology Policy, Progressive Policy Institute
When: Thursday, April 29, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. ET
This is a widely attended event and is open to the press.
