Stuart (Stu) Malec is the Vice President of Public Affairs for the Progressive Policy Institute (PPI). In this role, Stu oversees and implements PPI’s engagement work with elected officials at the federal, state and local levels of government.
Stu administers PPI’s CODEL and STAFFDEL programs, as well as PPI’s Congressional Fellowship program, which places policy fellows within the New Democrat Coalition and Blue Dog Coalition in the U.S. House of Representatives. Stu also manages external relations with several key PPI partners.
Before joining PPI, Stu worked for members of the House of Representatives for the first eight years of his professional career. He had tenures as Communications Director for U.S. Representative Kathleen Rice (NY-04), who served on the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee and chaired the Subcommittee on Border Security, and U.S. Representative Jim Langevin (RI-02), who served as a senior member of the House Armed Services and Homeland Security Committees.
Stu also led special projects and federal grant coordination efforts for Representative Langevin’s congressional district office and worked on state and local political campaigns in Rhode Island.
Stu is a proud New Englander and alum of the University of Rhode Island. He now lives in Washington D.C., where he enjoys playing basketball, traveling, and co-parenting his dog, Biscuit, when not at work.
